It is a mesh woven from fiberglass yarn and then coated with alkali-resistant latex. The yarn gives the mesh its strength, while the latex coating protects it from the high pH of cement and plaster, which would otherwise attack plain glass fiber.

The result is a mesh that is strong, flexible, soft to handle and resistant to water and ageing. Builders embed it in the plaster layer, where it holds the coating together as the wall dries and settles.

Plaster tends to crack where different materials meet, at corners and across large surfaces. A layer of fiber mesh spreads that stress across a wider area, so the coating is less likely to split. It reinforces the plaster on every layer and helps prevent the cracks that lead to leaks.

The alkali-resistant mesh is available in widths of 4 inch, 6 inch, 8 inch, 12 inch and 1 metre. Narrow rolls suit joints and corners, while the 1 metre roll covers full wall surfaces. We also supply formats such as 5x5 145g mesh, in multiple colours, and can arrange custom sizes on request.

For plaster and wall work, pick the alkali-resistant coated mesh and match the width to the area: narrow tape for joints, wider rolls for full surfaces.
